Our suggested starting point combines Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain — two very different ways of seeing Rio.
What makes this day different is the order.
You choose whether you would rather watch the sunset from Christ the Redeemer or Sugarloaf Mountain. We then arrange the sequence around that choice, visiting the other landmark earlier in the day and leaving your preferred viewpoint for later.
It is a starting route, not a rigid script. The important part is that the day has a clear rhythm and that the sunset is treated as part of the experience rather than an afterthought.

Rio Sunset is not a standard sightseeing itinerary with sunset added at the end.
The day is planned backwards from the moment you want to experience later.
Your preferred sunset location influences the order of the attractions, the recommended starting time and the overall rhythm of the tour.
That is why the same eight hours can feel very different depending on whether you choose Christ, Sugarloaf or the water for the final light of the day.

Christ and Sugarloaf are our suggested starting route, but they do not have to define every Rio Sunset experience.
Perhaps the private boat option suits you better. Perhaps one of the two landmarks matters much more to you than the other. Or perhaps there is something else you would like us to consider when shaping the day.

When Rio Sunset makes sense
Rio Sunset may be a particularly good fit if:
- you prefer a later-day experience rather than an early start;
- sunset is one of the moments you most want to experience in Rio;
- you would like to combine Rio's major landmarks with a more atmospheric end to the day;
- you want the flexibility to choose where you watch the sunset;
- the idea of ending the sightseeing day with dinner appeals to you;
- you are interested in a private boat sunset as an alternative to visiting both major landmarks.
If covering a broader range of Rio during the day matters more than building the experience around the evening light, Rio in 8 Hours may be a better starting point.
Planning the sunset well
The right timing changes with the day
Sunset does not happen at the same time throughout the year, so Rio Sunset does not need one fixed starting time.
We plan the recommended start around the sunset time for your date, your chosen viewpoint and the route you want to follow.
Your sunset choice
Choosing Christ, Sugarloaf or the private boat changes the sequence of the day. We plan the earlier part of the tour accordingly rather than forcing the same route into every departure.
Weather and visibility
The tour is planned around sunset time, but the weather is part of Rio and cannot be controlled. Clouds, rain or changing conditions can affect sunset visibility even when the timing of the day is carefully planned.
Traffic and access
Traffic and operating conditions can also influence the best sequence. We take these into account when recommending how the day should work.
The objective is not to rush from place to place. It is to give the experience the right order for the evening you are planning.
What’s usually included
Our standard Rio Sunset setup usually includes:
- Private vehicle with a professional driver
- Licensed tour guide in the language arranged for your group
- Pick-up and drop-off at locations of your choice within the city of Rio de Janeiro
- Complimentary bottled water
- Christ the Redeemer admission
- Fast-track tickets for Sugarloaf Mountain
If you choose the private boat sunset configuration, the private boat experience is included, together with the admission or ticket for the landmark that remains in your itinerary. The other landmark is removed from the itinerary to keep the experience within eight hours.
Prefer to arrange some tickets yourself or adjust the route? That’s fine. We can adapt the proposal accordingly.

Dinner
Time for dinner is built into the day after sunset.
Meals are not included and are paid directly at the restaurant. Rather than pre-arrange a fixed meal, we prefer to recommend restaurants based on what you feel like eating and the atmosphere you are looking for.
For Rio Sunset, we normally recommend dinner options in Copacabana, Ipanema or Leblon, keeping the end of the evening practical while still giving you different styles of food and setting to choose from.

Rio Sunset is quote-first because the experience can be configured in meaningfully different ways.
